Bundaberg’s Chief Entrepreneur Michael Ryan Norton is excited about the Techstars Startup Weekend coming up on 27-29 September.

Local entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to be immersed in innovation as the Techstars Startup Weekend Bundaberg returns for the second year.

The three-day premier entrepreneur event will give locals the chance to pitch and develop ideas and launch new ventures.

Startup Weekend Bundaberg 2019 will be facilitated by Bundaberg’s Chief Entrepreneur Michael Ryan Norton, who is currently serving as Entrepreneur In Residence at the AT_Makerspace.

Mr Norton said the weekend-long immersive experience into starting an innovative business was open to anyone interested in pitching or developing a new idea.

He has facilitated over 60 Startup Weekend events throughout the United States and Canada and works extensively with tech startups and innovation.

The event boasts a who’s who lineup of local experts and serial entrepreneurs who will coach and advise teams as they pursue their weekend projects.

Startup Weekend will be 54 hours of new ideas

The event is for anyone with an idea they’d like to pursue or a problem they’d like to solve but doesn’t know where to start or who to chat to.

Mr Norton said Techstars Startup Weekend was the place for new entrepreneurs to look for a team, create a prototype of an idea, validate their business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

The idea should be something not previously worked on, with the pitch and the problem set out to solve social, educational, financial, environmental or other issues.

Over the course of the weekend the participants will be challenged to create a prototype of their minimum viable product (MVP) that fits the needs of their target customer.

Then they will receive feedback, iterate, and likely pivot their approach entirely!

What do you need to take to Techstars Startup Weekend?

Mr Norton said lots of energy would be needed throughout the Startup Weekend.

“You’ll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets,” he said.

“You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.”

This year’s Startup Weekend takes place 27-29 September at The Generator coworking space.

Weekend ticket prices range from $35 to $50 with earlybird and student discounts available.

Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite
