Raised dust is making its way across the Bundaberg Region as a high pressure system from southern Australia pushes cooler, dry air across Queensland.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology the large high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight is directing the air across Queensland’s interior, while above average temperatures are still expected about the far eastern districts.

“Areas of raised dust and haze is visible across the state, mostly well inland,” BOM reported.

The dust can be seen on satellite covering parts of Southeast Queensland up the coast to Bundaberg.

The dust started to make its way across Bundaberg in the early hours of Saturday morning and it’s expected the haze will remain for the remainder of the day.

The view of the Bundaberg Region from the Hummock is limited because of dust and the coastline is a haze of white.

Queensland Health advises that dust can have serious effects on people’s health, particularly those with breathing-related issues, infants, children, adolescents and elderly people.

Dust can also limit visibility, affecting road travel. If you’re driving and visibility drops, slow down or pull over somewhere safe.

The dust storm is expected to continue during most of Saturday, slowly clearing from inland areas in the afternoon and coastal districts tonight.

North Gregory fire

QFES reported earlier that fire crews remained on scene at a bushfire burning near Foleys Road and Ricciardis Road at North Gregory.

Crews were still working to contain the fire, which posed no threat to property. Motorists should take extra caution as smoke may affect roads and crews are working in the area. Residents are advised to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition keep their medication close by.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
