The National Broadband Network (nbn) has made an application to upgrade an existing telecommunication facility in Branyan to improve connectivity for customers in the area.
The minor change application requests approval to install a 900mm MatSing lens antenna on the existing structure located at 194 Bonna Road, Branyan.
The application states it will “enable the best possible coverage solutions at this locality”.
“This will provide better coverage options for the local community seeking access to nbn services and therefore better internet access,” the application said.
As part of the proposed upgrade a number of other components will be updated which do not require another development approval.
This includes panel antennas, parabolic antennas, cabinets and ancillary equipment which the application states are all deemed to be low impact under the relevant planning determination.
Planning and development spokesman Cr Ross Sommerfeld said Branyan, at the western edge of Bundaberg City, was an identified growth area.
“Residential development in the Branyan area is expanding in leaps and bounds so further investment in telecommunications facilities for this area will be welcome news to current and future residents,” Cr Sommerfeld said.
He said the application is currently with planning officers for assessment.
