He is the black scruffy dog usually found at Donaldson’s Dairy but soon, Hairy Maclary and author/illustrator Lynley Dodd will visit Bundaberg for a special exhibition showcase.
To be held at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, The Lynley Dodd Story will feature a celebration of characters including Hairy Maclary, Slinky Malinki and nine other friends from 20 April to 23 June.
Council’s community and cultural services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said the exhibition would be one for children and adults alike to enjoy.
“The story of Hairy Maclary is one that has been told over and over again and is much loved by all generations,” Cr Peters said.
“This exhibition is going to be full of delight with original artworks including the very first drawing of Hairy Maclary.”
Events galore in May
Cr Peters said in early May three separate events would be held with special guest Lynley Dodd as part of the exhibition showcase.
“The gallery will host An Evening With Lynley Dodd on Friday, 10 May from 5.30pm which will include a meet and greet opportunity, wine and treats,” Cr Peters said.
“This event is free and strictly for 16 years and over with spaces limited.”
Cr Peters said on Saturday, 11 May, the community will have the opportunity to meet in Gallery Park for a book signing with the popular author from 12 noon to 1pm.
“Don’t forget to dress up as your favourite character from the Lynley Dodd book for this event,” Cr Peters said.
“It’s free to attend and there is no need to book, just come along and join in on the fun!”
On Sunday 12 May, Cr Peters said a Writers’ Masterclass by Lynley Dodd and curator Penelope Jackson would take place from 2pm to 5pm at the gallery.
“Our local writers have such a great opportunity and booked this event out quickly,” Cr Peters said.
“We still urge those wanting to meet this amazing author to sign up for An Evening With Lynley Dodd which is still taking bookings.”
