Aussie Rules fans were in for a treat when members of the Brisbane Lions touched down in Bundaberg today.
The two day visit is all part of a coaching clinic, with five players and one assistant coach participating in training sessions happening throughout the region’s schools.
Brisbane Lions player Charlie Cameron said after recovering from an injury, getting out to visit and help train students was a breath of fresh air.
“It has been really good promoting AFL to the younger kids,” he said.
“It is always enjoyable to come out here and give back to the community.”
Cameron said the clinics not only focused on drills and technique but also promoted nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.
Shalom College student Olivia Schneider said while the coaching clinic was a bit of fun at the moment, there was always the opportunity it could lead to a career.
“There is always that option,” she said.
“I think it is a really good experience, it gives you the chance to meet and learn from some of the better players who are high up in the grade.”
