It has been yet another stunning week of winter weather this past week, providing sunshine, blue skies, chilly mornings, beautiful days, offshore winds, and spectacular ocean conditions.
Yesterday even brought very light northerly winds, which meant those temperatures became very mild and these conditions will actually continue into today bringing more mild to warm temperatures.
The winds will remain light and variable throughout today before they start to swing back from the S/SW to S/SE tomorrow and into Sunday, but it probably will not be until Sunday morning when the temperatures starts to fill a little chilly once again.
Today’s winds will from the W/SW early before swinging from the N/NE during the day buy only at around 5 knots.
Tomorrow will then bring S/SW to S/SE winds at around 10 knots, before Sunday brings 15 knots of S/SW winds early but they will ease back to around 10 knots from the S/SE during the day.
Swimming
Swimming conditions have been absolutely fantastic throughout this past week with mostly calm and glassy seas for the most part and just a small amount of northerly chop setting in through yesterday afternoon.
Looking ahead to today and then across the weekend, we are set for another run of absolutely amazing weather and matching swimming conditions.
All beaches will be fantastic for swimmers across all three days with the light but variable winds through today keeping the ocean quite mild, but then the offshore winds on the weekend set to keep the ocean calm, glassy and flat – the only exception will through the afternoons when there will be just a small amount of chop setting in as the winds turn onshore.
The best time to hit the beaches for swimmers will be from early morning through until around mid to late morning as this is when the tide will be higher.
Please check with the Lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, AND most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!

Surfing
This past week has thrown up nothing but clam, glassy and flat conditions for the most part with pretty much nothing at all in terms of waves – well, waves that are big enough to surf on anyway!
And, unfortunately, as we look ahead to the next 3 days, the forecast is suggesting more of the same – calm, flat and mostly glassy!
As per usual though, keep an eye on your favourite surf spot as there may be small windows of opportunity to find a small but ridable wave – although that may not be until maybe Sunday at the earliest, or more likely on Monday. Good Luck.
For the SUP and Ocean Ski paddlers chasing a downwind paddle, the wind forecast is not looking promising through today and tomorrow, but maybe by Saturday afternoon or into Sunday there could be enough breeze for a south to north run.
But for those chasing a more relaxed and gentler paddle, the coming days are for you, with the beaches providing plenty of glassy and calm conditions to enjoy through the mornings.
