Recycling right can make a huge difference to your household and the planet.

Knowing how to recycle right and correctly dispose of waste and recycling items can make a big difference to your household and the planet.

Reducing waste can help save money, help the environment and create jobs through resource recovery industries throughout the region.

Following these simple tips on how to recycle right:

  • Leave recyclables loose (do not bag)
  • Remove lids on drink bottles and containers
  • Fold boxes to save space
  • No need to crush tins and cans
  • Rinse recyclables for a better end product
  • Do not overfill bins or place large, heavy or hazardous objects in the bin

All plastic bottles and jars can be recycled, but please remember to remove the lids and rinse out to ensure a better end product.

Drink and food cans are normally made of aluminium or steel and both are easily recycled – this also includes aerosol cans.

Please remember to remove the plastic lid and nozzle before putting it in the bin.

Glass jars and bottles either clear or coloured are 100% recyclable, however flat, plate or mirror glass cannot be recycled.

Cardboard can be recycled but it should be clean and of a size that fits loosely into a bin, with large boxes folded down to fit.

Some materials have special recycling programs, such as e-waste, fluorescent lights, chemicals, paint and batteries.

Find out more about these and other recycling programs here.
